Centre Antoine Vermette has retired from pro hockey. Drafted in the second round, 55th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators, Vermette has 515 points (228G, 287A) in 1046 games, as well as 28 points (14G, 14A) in 97 playoff games for Ottawa (2003/04-partway through 2008/09), Columbus (partway through 2008/09-partway through 2011/12), Phoenix/Arizona (partway through 2011/12-partway through 2014/15, 2015/16), Chicago (part of 2014/15), and Anaheim (2016/17-2017/18). Vermette had some respectable career-highs of 65 points, 27 goals, and 38 assists, all in 2010 for Columbus, bur Vermette spent most of his career as more of a depth centre, capable of some strong supplementary offence but truly coveted for his faceoff prowess, which is why the Blackhawks acquired him en route to winning the Stanley Cup in 2015. Vermette, 36, did not sign a contract after finishing last season with 16 points (8G, 8A) in 64 games for Anaheim.
The Bruins recalled centre Trent Frederic and left winger Peter Cehlarik from AHL Providence, recalled goaltender Zane McIntyre on an emergency basis, and reassigned left winger Ryan Donato and centre Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson. Centre Peter Mueller, who was last under contract in the NHL on a PTO with Boston, has signed a three-year contract extension in Czechia with HC Kometa Brno.
