Recap: Patrik Laine Loves Dallas!

The Winnipeg Jets beat the Dallas Stars in a game that had a bit of everything. They had a goal called back in the first 30 seconds of play! They scored in the last minute of play! They thoroughly beat a division rival and picked up more key points in the playoff race!

Three Thoughts

  1. Patrik Laine owns the Dallas Stars. There is no team he loves to play more than them and it shows. He started the game quickly scoring a goal 13 seconds in. While the goal was called back because Laine was off-side, he did not let that stop him from scoring again. Laine is clearly made to play Dallas and was lucky to be drafted into the same division as them. Laine’s success against the Stars is extremely important because the Jets have been fighting them for playoff spots or points on and off for years. Having Laine be so utterly dominate against them benefits the team overall.
  2. I am an absolutely horrible person because my first thought when Luca Sbisa stayed down on the ice injured was Queen’s Another One Bites the Dust. Aside from my dumb brain, losing another defenceman would be really hard on the Jets. They are down two NHL defencemen not including Dustin Byfuglien. Sami Niku is also injured in the AHL. To put it simply: the Jets don’t have many players to play defence right now and it could be painful to watch.
  3. Connor Hellebuyck has been excellent after the first week of the season and hopefully that continues as the defence picks up more and more injuries. Hellebuyck’s steady play has buoyed the Jets this year and should continue to be a strong point to watch as the season progresses. They should be prepared for him to regress even a little bit, but they have built up a fair amount of points so that if it ever comes to that, they will be ready.
