Recap: What happened in Vegas…

The Winnipeg Jets started off their game against the Vegas Golden Knights with a quick goal and then proceeded to give up three quick goals in the first period. But the Jets didn’t give up and stop playing. Instead, they turned their game around and ended up winning in overtime. It was a surprising twist that was fun to watch.

Three Thoughts

  • The Winnipeg Jets’ third goal was somewhat controversial because it should have been icing. However, the Jets made their own luck and earned that goal by playing hard the whole game and slowly getting back into it. If it hadn’t been scored then, I am certain they could have scored the tying goal at a different time because they were the team pushing the pace trying to score.
  • The defence remains an issue for the Jets. Josh Morrissey has been struggling this year and in this game he made two plays that directly led to goals against. He seems to be missing Jacob Trouba to help him carry the load. However, the defence was pretty good last night. They limited Vegas’ chances and helped the Jets come back simply by not bending at all.
  • Blake Wheeler has not scored a power play point all season. He struggled to score at even strength last year and is currently struggling to score on the power play. Has he reached the age drop off that players hit around Wheeler’s age. It is not reflective of his play, but simply what happens as one gets older. Anyways, it is something to watch throughout the season.
