Jets Claim Defenseman Luca Sbisa on Waivers

A depth defenseman to help bolster a depleted group

NHL: Vancouver Canucks at New York Islanders Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Have you ever had a relationship end that you wanted to continue? And, in a desperate attempt to try to perhaps convince that person to get back together you started doing things you wouldn’t normally do? Like maybe join that yoga class they suggested; or try Korean cuisine; or go back to school like you always promised?

Well, with the Winnipeg Jets waiver pick up of Luca Sbisa today, I feel that is what the Jets are doing in part. Sure we need defence help due to injuries and such. But, how many defense waiver picks ups do we have to make to convince you to come back to our team, Dustin Byfuglien? First Carl Dahlstrom, now Sbisa. What do we have to do Buff? You want us to call Chris Thorburn, convert him to defense, maybe give him your number? Because we’ll do it! Unless, you please, just come back. Load management. There I said it again. We need you Buff.

I kid, of course. But, I really do miss Buff. And the Jets really miss Buff, and keep having to find less than ideal ways to reinforce their blueline in part due to his absence.

Luca Sbisa – looks like insurance given the rash of injuries the Jets already depleted defense has experienced lately. He only played nine games in the NHL last season with the New York Islanders, 30 the season before with the Vegas Golden Knights, and was waived this week by the Anaheim Ducks. So, he’s a depth piece at most.

Thoughts? Trade time yet folks? Empathy for Paul Maurice? I’m getting worried.
