The 2017-18 season was as close to disastrous as one would ever hope for Nelson Nogier. In the first shift of the first pre-season game with the Manitoba Moose, Nogier was checked into the boards and suffered a shoulder injury that kept him out of action until March 16.

Nogier was coming off of a 2016-17 season that saw him get 10 late season games with the Winnipeg Jets, and was poised to fight for call-up time with fellow defender Tucker Poolman. Instead, Nogier played in 13 regular season games and two playoff games with the Moose.

Nogier’s stat line from his time in the NHL was pretty quiet, with no points. He did pick up five penalty minutes courtesy this ill-advised fight with Jared Boll of the Anaheim Ducks:

Nogier appeared in a pair of games for the Jets this pre-season, picking up a goal and an assist, but will start the season with the Moose, and will likely be behind Sami Niku and Poolman in the order of defenders getting called up. At age 22, there is definitely still room and ability for growth in his game, but there are even more names waiting in the wings (Logan Stanley and Dylan Samberg in particular) that may erase Nogier’s ability to play with the Jets again.
