Centre Henrik Zetterberg has retired from pro hockey. Drafted in the seventh round, 210th overall, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings, Zetterberg has 960 points (337G, 623A) in 1082 games, as well as 120 points (57G, 63A) in 137 playoff games, for Detroit (2002/03-2017/18). He captained the Red Wings from 2012/13 to 2017/18. Zetterberg won the Stanley Cup with the Red Wings in 2008, and also won the Conn Smythe Trophy that year. Zetterberg was named to represent Detroit in the 2008 All-Star Game, though he was unable to participate due to injury. He also won the King Clancy Memorial Trophy in 2015. Zetterberg also won Gold with Sweden at the 2006 Turin Olympics and Silver at 2014 Sochi Olympics. Zetterberg is ending his playing career due to a degenerative back condition. Zetterberg has been afflicted by back problems for the past few seasons, and it got bad enough that, despite Zetterberg not missing a game in the past three seasons and having a pretty decent 2018 season, he has been unable to practice. Zetterberg has three seasons left on his contract, which he will spend on LTIR so Detroit can avoid a cap recapture penalty. Zetterberg has career-highs of 43 goals and 92 points, both achieved in 2008, and of 56 assists in 2011, all with Detroit. Zetterberg retires after having finished his last season with 56 points (11G, 45A) in 82 games for Detroit.
