Right winger Alexandre Burrows has retired from pro hockey. Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2003 by the Vancouver Canucks, Burrows has 409 points (205G, 204A) in 913 games, as well as 39 points (19G, 20A) in 85 playoff games, for Vancouver (2005/06-partway through 2016/17) and Ottawa (partway through 2016/17-2017/18). Burrows has career-highs of 67 points in 2010 with Vancouver, 35 goals in 2010 with Vancouver, and 32 assist in 2010 with Vancouver. Burrows, 37, finished his last NHL season with 14 points (6G, 8A) in 71 games. Burrows closed out his career in steep decline. After his career-high 2009/10 season, he has only three times reached 30 points and has only once gotten over 40 or 50. In addition to his offence drying up badly, he has also seen his defence decline. The worse aspects of his game never really went away, with Burrows missing 10 games and losing $134,000 due to a suspension. Burrows was coming off the first year of a two-year contract extension when he was bought out. His retirement comes just under a week into free agency. Burrows will join the Montreal Canadiens’ AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket, as an assistant coach.
