Nic Petan signs for one year

Nic Petan has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Winnipeg Jets.

A two-way contract does not mean that Petan is not waiver eligible (he is), it means that he is paid less to play in the AHL than he is to play in the NHL. The Jets will still have to place him on waivers if he does not make the team and waive him at any point if they want him in the AHL. He might take the Marko Dano mantle instead and spend most of the season in the press box watching players who are worse than him play because they are good at scoring butt goals.

The Jets should give Petan an honest to goodness chance this season with decent players. Even if it is on the wing, there is no reason why a very good player cannot be found in there. He elevates almost everyone not named Chris Thorburn and that one is tough to blame him for. He will remain a RFA at the end of this contract.
