The Winnipeg Jets have selected David Gustafsson from Sweden’s HV 71. He played in three different levels of hockey this year, ultimately ending up with the top-level team where he recorded 12 points in 45 games. He also played both under-18 and under-20 tournaments recording seven points in seven games at the Under-18 World Men’s Championships and zero points in four games with the under-20 team.
Gustafsson also had a successful Ivan Hlinka Tournament where he recorded four points in five games.
Our friends at Habs Eyes on the Prize describe him as a player who is more adept at defence than offence, but he is capable of generating some offence. It is unlikely that we will see him at the Men’s World Under-20 Championships this year as Sweden is deep, but it is not out of the realm of possibility in the future.
