The Winnipeg Jets have signed 2016 sixth round draft pick Mikhail Berdin to an entry-level contract. Berdin has been playing for the Sioux Falls Stampede in the USHL for the past two years with no NCAA plans. Before that he played in the MHL for the under-18 Russian National Team.
This is a smart signing for the Jets. They can send him to the ECHL and let him play as a starter next season while veterans, probably Eric Comrie and Jamie Phillips hold down the AHL spots.
The Jets have signed a talented goalie who has had strong stats in every league he has played in. Even though he went with Russia to the World Under-20 Championships this year, he did not play a game. Outside of this, Berdin is also an accomplished goal scorer who has way too much celebrating his successes. Hopefully he scores more goals for the Jets in the future.
When you're the goalie and you score a goal, you get all the celebrations out of the way.#GoalieGoal pic.twitter.com/riZFAAhcd1
