Josh Morrissey has a hearing for his cross check to Eric Staal

Josh Morrissey will have a hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety today for his cross-check to Eric Staal’s neck.

This will be a phone hearing based on the quick turnaround for the hearing. Morrissey cannot be suspended for more then five games this way as per the CBA.

It is hard to predict what Morrissey will get if he gets anything. He deserves some sort of punishment as he did recklessly hit a player in a vulnerable area. On the other hand, there have been players who had admitted that they either hit a player in retaliation or that they would hit a player in the head again if given a redo. Discipline is hard to predict in the NHL and this just proves that there is little consistency.

Morrissey’s hearing is at 2:30 PM CST. Expect a suppertime announcement of punishment if there is anything handed down from the NHL.

The Winnipeg Jets and Minnesota Wild play game five on Friday at 6:30 PM CST.
