Preview: Winnipeg Jets vs Edmonton Oilers

The Jets are coming off two convincing home wins. Can they make it three against the Edmonton Oilers?

Introduction:

The Winnipeg Jets close out their four game home stand with a game against the Edmonton Oilers. The Jets lost a 1-0 squeaker to the St. Louis Blues, blew out the Philadelphia Flyers 7-1 and followed up with a convincing 6-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. The Jets are back to being a pretty healthy squad again thanks to the return of Dustin Byfuglien, Josh Morrissey and even Dmitri Kulikov, who’s appearances in the Jets lineup coincide roughly with Halley’s Comet orbit.

The Oilers have definitely improved since sacking Todd McLellan and replacing him with Ken Hitchcock. The Oilers have won five straight at home including a tough 1 – 0 win against the scorching hot Calgary Flames. They are coming off of a 6-4 victory in Colorado so they’re either going to be tired or pumped up (hoping for the former) The last time these two teams played the Jets lost 5-4 in overtime in large part to Connor McDavid.

Team Comparison

Winnipeg Jets Edmonton Oilers
Winnipeg Jets Edmonton Oilers
Record: 16-8-2 Record: 13-9-3
Last Ten Games: 6-3-1 Last Ten Games: 5-4-1
Who?s Hot: Connor Hellebuyck. Sat out against the Blackhawks, but only had 3 goals against in the last 3 games he has played. Who?s Hot: Milan Lucic ? Is it even fair to pick on him at this point? At $6 million per year until 2023, you?re darn right it is.
Who?s Not: Jack Roslovic. I like Jack and feel that given his skill level he should be putting up more points even as a fourth line player. I?m calling you out young Jack! Who?s Not: Leon Draisaitl ? The coaching change seemed to wake his game up a bit.
Keep an Eye On: The Jets second line of Kyle Connor ? Bryan Little ? Patrick Laine. Connor has been playing great lately. Little and Laine are due for some better production. Keep an Eye On: Everyone other than Connor McDavid. He?s unstoppable and he?s going to get his. But, he?s not a one-man team, so the Jets need to control everyone else.

The table was being uncooperative. The teams records are: Winnipeg 19-9-2 and Edmonton 17-12-2.
