Preview: Winnipeg Jets vs. Florida Panthers

The Winnipeg Jets are back in action and they are in Finland for the NHL’s Global Series. The series is to help grow the NHL internationally. They are playing the Florida Panthers who have their Finnish captain Alexander Barkov: Finnish Star. The Jets counter that Finn with Patrik Laine, who has been struggling this season. I use struggling loosely because while he has not produced, he has improved his shot rate from last season and should start scoring soon.

Now for the rest of the Jets, it has been hard to evaluate them. There is a lot to like about them, but that all gets lost in the mess that is the Jets defence behind the first pair. The Jets seemed to have been lulled into a sense of security that they can stick anyone beside Dustin Byfuglien and the second pairing will be fine. But having a player outside of their depth puts a strain on all the other players on the ice and the Jets really need to get away from that.

A lot has been made of Laine playing at “home”. Laine is not from Helsinki, but Tampere. He is from Finland though and this would be the perfect day for him to bust out of his slump. Connor Hellebuyck will be starting and there is no word on the scratches yet, but it is likely that Tucker Poolman and Nic Petan will not play today.

Hauskaa ja älä anna sinun pomo nähdä sinua katsomassa.
