The start to the season was not exactly what we’ve come to expect from Nikolaj Ehlers, as it took the Winnipeg Jets forward until his tenth game of the season to score his first goal.

Ehlers is coming off a season in which he scored 29 goals, which followed a season of 25 goals, so the drought was rather unexpected. The Dane has seen a multitude of linemates this year, as he has been shifted around as Paul Maurice has attempted numerous shuffles to jumpstart both Ehlers and frequent linemate Patrik Laine.

Things have been frustrating enough for Ehlers that we’ve even seen him in his second ever NHL fight.

Glancing around the social media-verse, there seems to be a lot of stress around basically anybody other than the Scheifele line has played so far. Expectations are very high for this team, and for Ehlers. But it’s important to remember that he has proven he can contribute, and that while his scoring numbers aren’t there right now, there’s nothing to indicate they won’t return to previous levels.

This is the guy who single handedly turned around the Jets season last year (sure it was in game three, but NARRATIVE).

Ehlers, 22, is under contract to the Jets until 2025, and if he can continue to improve his $6 million annual contract will be well worth it.
