Winnipeg Jets sign Brandon Tanev to a one year contract

Brandon Tanev is back for one more year as the Winnipeg Jets have signed him to a one-year, one-way contract worth $700 000. The one-way nature of the deal means that Tanev will be paid the same in the AHL or the NHL.

Tanev started off last season with the Manitoba Moose playing in 23 games. Once he got called up to the Jets he played in another 51 games, recording four points including two goals.

Tanev was one of the Jets worst forwards last season; struggling to advance the puck up the ice and drive play to any degree. An area in which Tanev did excel in was skating as he was one of the Jets fastest forwards. He also killed penalties because of his speed, but he was not highly successful in that area.

Tanev is the perfect player for press box duty as he does not have any more real development to reach and he is an inexpensive body. His older brother is Chris Tanev of the Vancouver Canucks.
