Free Agent Frenzy: Jets Sign Dmitri Kulikov

As reported earlier by Bob McKenzie, the Winnipeg Jets signed free agent LHD Dmitri Kulikov who spent last season in Buffalo. The reported terms are 3 years with a $4.33 million AAV. It’s likely that Kulikov will be on the Jets’ third pairing this year, so here’s a comparison to last season’s third pairing guy, the recently re-signed Ben Chiarot, who will likely be in the press box next season barring injuries.

So, the Jets made a slight upgrade on Chiarot, but look for Kulikov’s numbers to improve due to the Jets having a far better defense situation than Buffalo. Pairing him with Dustin Byfuglien seems to be the best possible move, as Byfuglien has carried a pair before, actually, with the aforementioned Ben Chiarot.
