The idea of the Winnipeg Jets signing Karl Alzner has already been explored in May, but with over a month since the option of signing Alzner has been explored and the answer is still no.
First of all, Darren Dreger is the insider who has reported the Jets supposed interest in Alzner.
Winnipeg and Montreal with strong interest in Karl Alzner. Indications are the Jets and Canadiens have had discussions with Alzner.

It is known that Alzner has visited the Montreal Canadiens, but he also has interest with the Vegas Golden Knights and the Vancouver Canucks. And it seems like part of his free agency tour would be seeing who will give him term.
Dreger: "I think Karl Alzner is going to expect a six-year term" as a UFA. Not sure about dollar amount. 1290

The problem with Alzner is he is thought to be way better than he actually is. He will be paid as a top four defenceman while being a bottom pairing player. If the Jets want to sign anyone, it should be someone to start to replace Toby Enstrom. And to keep on beating a dead horse, the Jets need to be prudent with their salary cap as they have three big contracts up next year and one more the season after which should take precedence over signing free agents.
The Jets have clearly identified their needs, it is now time to see how they will fill them.
