UFA 2017: Winnipeg Jets looking at Kulikov

The Winnipeg Jets are clearly at least exploring filling some needs for next season through free agency and have talked to Dmitry Kulikov’s camp to see if he would be an option on defence. Kulikov played last season with the terrible Buffalo Sabres.

Kulikov struggled for the Sabres this year after being traded by the Florida Panthers in the summer for Mark Pysyk. While he is not great, he would be an improvement on the third pairing over Mark Stuart and Ben Chiarot. However, the Jets have to be careful with their salary cap as they will have some important contracts coming up soon that will cost them a pretty penny including Nikolaj Ehlers, Patrik Laine, Josh Morrissey, and Jacob Trouba all due for renewal within the next season or two. Because of that the Jets have to be careful about term and money for any of their non-core players beyond this season.

Kulikov will be able to sign a contract noon Saturday.
