Interest is picking up for Hutchinson; Jets waiting on Mason

The Winnipeg Jets are getting closer to trading AHL goalie Michael Hutchinson, but they are delaying making a final decision on trading him until Steve Mason returns to health. Mason has not cleared his baseline test although he is symptom free.

The reason for the Jets desire to trade Hutchinson is simple: they want to move his salary. There are teams like the Florida Panthers and the Pittsburgh Penguins who might be looking for a backup goalie for their teams.

If the Jets do not trade him it is not the end of the world, but it would give the Jets even more cap space than they already have if they want to add a piece or two at the trade deadline.

Another note on the Mason front, it sounds like the Jets are expecting him to pass his baseline test next week and return to the team. At this point, Eric Comrie would go to the AHL and there might be movement on the Hutchinson front.
