Winnipeg Jets call up centre Jack Roslovic; place Brandon Tanev on injured reserve

The Winnipeg Jets have called up Manitoba Moose centreman Jack Roslovic. Roslovic has had a very strong season for the Moose, leading the team in scoring for the season. As a centre, the Jets can choose to move Blake Wheeler back to wing and put together a “kid line” allowing a line of Wheeler, Bryan Little, and Mathieu Perreault/Kyle Connor to do the heavy lifting defensively. Roslovic could also play wing in the NHL at first.

As for Brandon Tanev, he left last night’s game with a lower body injury. He is estimated to be out a couple of weeks.

According to Paul Maurice, Roslovic will not play in Sunday’s game and instead Joel Armia will move up into Tanev’s spot and Marko Dano will draw in. For the immediate future this move is understandable, but long-term it is hard to see Shawn Matthias and Dano playing over Roslovic. Roslovic should be wherever he can play games and if he is simply going to be a spare body in the NHL, he should be back in the AHL.
