WJC Watch Thread: Belarus vs Switzerland and Canada vs. Slovakia

Today is a short day for WJC hockey, if you are a fan.

2:00 PM Belarus vs. Switzerland

6:00 PM Canada vs. Slovakia

There are no Winnipeg Jets prospects playing today, but that does not mean that the tournament will not be interesting. It is worthwhile to see if there are any draft eligible players on any of the teams worth noting. Please note, the NHL Draft is the opposite of my skill set, so I have no clue if there are prospects of note even playing today.

Belarus-Switzerland should be interesting only if we never know what Switzerland we will get and sometimes smaller hockey nations like Belarus can surprise a country in a major tournament. Just ask Sweden about the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics.

For Canada’s game, do not expect much. Canada was able to effectively handle Finland and will look to do the same against Slovakia, a hockey program that is still rebuilding following the fall of communism. There is no official confirmation about who is starting in net for Canada yet.

Today marks the first games of the tournament for Slovakia and Switzerland.
