Truck
Howden has proven NHL ability – that gives him a leg up on many others from this list. He also has limited upside – this is likely why he ranks where he does.
Arby
He played in the NHL, so that’s good. Then again, so does Chris Thorburn. He does have some experience on his side, so it’ll be interesting to see how he does at camp in relation to the kids. He may be a tweener, but until other kids make the show he’ll have that on them.
Andy
To be honest with you, I don’t know a lot about Howden. But I do know the Jets thought enough of him to offer him a one year deal. The 24 year old spent time with the Florida Panthers last year, and notched 11 points in 58 games. Inconsistencies plagued him, and the the Manitoba product will compete against other bottom 6 forwards for ice time this season.
Summary
Howden will be one of the many faces competing for a spot on the Jets’ bottom six come training camp. Whether or not he can make it on the team is another story. He may find himself pushed down to the Moose if younger talent with more upside wind up impressing enough to make the team. Hopefully if he does, it means that a player like Chris Thorburn or Anthony Peluso will find themselves pushed out of the lineup on a more permanent basis.
