The Winnipeg Jets have found their guy, as Jamie Kompon has been named the new assistant coach. Kompon, who fills the vacancy left behind with Pascal Vincent becoming the Moose Head Coach, coached the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL, where he was head coach for the past 2 seasons leading them to a record of 77-54-13. In both seasons, Kompon managed to get the Winterhawks into the playoffs, and lead them to a conference final in 2015.
Kompon, who is originally from Thunder Bay, has solid NHL experience too, as he was an assistant coach in Los Angeles from 2008-12 and Chicago from 2012-14, coaching back to back Stanley Cup winners in consecutive seasons. Whoa! Kompon also has experience as a scout for the Kings for two years from 2006-08, and has held various other coaching roles with the St. Louis Blues from 1997-2006.
