AIH 20416 Ep. 32: Blackhawks v Blues, Islanders v Panthers, Tucker Poolman & the U18s

Hello everyone! Recorded on April 18th, Episode 32 was jam-packed with hockey talk from across conferences, leagues and age groups. Just because the Winnipeg Jets season is over doesn't mean the fun stops over at the AIH 20416 Podcast!

Our first segment was a head-to-head between bitter rivals, FanSided vs SB Nation the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues. Inspired by their first round playoff series, we invited Keith Schultz (@Oakforest72), Co-Editor of Blackhawk Up, to take on St. Louis Game Time's Site Manager Laura Astorian (@hildymac). Their slings and arrows included:

  • Whether this St. Louis Blues team is different from previous seasons
  • Assessing Andrew Ladd's game and David Backes' future with the Blues
  • Vladimir Tarasenko: Unstoppable?
  • Reviewing goals and offsides on a Nintendo DS
  • Should Artemi Panarin win the Calder Cup Trophy?
  • How each team might fare against the Dallas Stars in Round Two

Next up Christopher Lizza (@TheNLKing), New York Islanders writer for The Hockey Writers, NHL Writer for Last Word On Sports and co-host with Mark Warner at The Vegas Hockey Podcast. After some genuinely fascinating Vegas hockey talk right off the bat, we proceeded to touch upon such topics as:

  • Who was the "best" first round opponent for the Islanders?
  • Travis Hamonic's importance to New York's d-corps, and some Ham-Ham trade speculation
  • Comparing NYI's d-corps to that of the Florida Panthers
  • Whether keeping pending UFA Kyle Okposo was the right decision
  • Thomas Greiss and goaltending as a strength
  • The series' best player, Reilly Smith John Tavares

Last but certainly not least was Oliver Francies (@terpanese) of Seamore Sports. Though newly-started, Seamore Sports has hit the ground running, with terrific content provided on both its Twitter account and website. Be sure to head their way for all things UND sports and, at the moment, IIHF U18 World Hockey Championship. After a very special intro song, our conversation included:

  • Ralph Engelstad Arena, UND and the US college hockey experience
  • How amazing is Tucker Poolman, and is it time for him to go professional?
  • BCHL's Tyson Jost and Dante Fabbro making the Penticton Vees proud
  • Fawning all over Clayton Keller, while not forgetting his American compatriot Kieffer Bellows
  • Logan Brown again being mentioned by one of our guests (!!!!)
  • Additional U18 mentions in Alexander Nylander, Jordan Kyrou, Jakob Chychrun and more!
