Game #24 GDT: Nashville Predators at Winnipeg Jets

Winnipeg will hope the MTS Centre serves as a refresh button

NHL: Nashville Predators at Winnipeg Jets Bruce Fedyck-USA TODAY Sports

Well that was a miserable stretch. Over their five game road trip, the Winnipeg Jets managed six goals for versus 20 against. Friday's finale was the icing on the cake, with Nashville scoring five unanswered goals, including three on the power play. When it rains, it pours, and it's funny how nothing seems to go right for a squad during stretches such as this. Case and point:

Thankfully, mercifully, the road trip is at an end. The Jets now begin a three-game home stand, beginning with a chance at redemption today versus Nashville. Friday's 3-1 "goal-scorer" James Neal is out with an upper-body injury, and replaced on the top-line by Kevin Fiala. Selected 11th overall in 2014, Fiala has proven he can produce at the AHL level. The 20-year-old goes straight from the Milwaukee Admirals to skating beside Viktor Arvidsson and Ryan Johansen, and Nashville will hope that Fiala can begin to solidify himself on the NHL roster.

If there's a note to give Winnipeg fans heart, it might be the Preds' performance away from home. In stark contrast to its 8-1-1 record at Bridgestone Arena, Nashville is a rather unsightly 2-6-2 on the road. Let's see if there are any road jitters playing in front of the MTS Centre crowd.

Actually, scrap that, there's at least one more 2016-17 bright spot for Jets fans at the moment: Nikolaj Ehlers. Taken a couple of spots above Fiala, the speedy Dane is entrenching himself as a reliably dangerous scoring forward. While he hasn't found net in eight games, Ehlers has continued to produce, posting seven assists during that stretch. On pace for 14 goals and 67 points, he's a reminder of the hopefully bright future to come.
