The Winnipeg Jets select Michael Spacek in the fourth round

The Winnipeg Jets have drafted Michael Spacek from Pardubice with the seventeenth pick in the fourth round. He is a centre that would be considered small by NHL standards as he is 5’11”. He played most of last season in the Czech Extraliga after starting it in the U20 league. He seemed to perform well for a young player in the top league, finishing second in under-20 scoring behind Martin Reway.

There is not a lot of information out there on Spacek as Europeans seem to lack a lot of the same scouting reports their North American brethren get. Spacek was ranked as the fifth European prospect, which makes it look like the Jets got good value for their pick. He is a play-maker who possesses a good shot. He has played on the power play already and is seen as a smart player. Spacek is not related to long-time NHL defenceman and funny guy Jaroslav Spacek.

The Cannon has compiled a bit of information on Spacek.
