Game Preview: Winnipeg Jets at the Anaheim Ducks

The Winnipeg Jets are back at it again after their thrilling shootout win over the Los Angles Kings as they take on the Pacific division leading Anaheim Ducks. The game will have special meaning to both franchises as beloved future hall of famer Teemu Selanne will have his jersey retired by the Ducks.

The Jets have struggled (as many teams have) against the Ducks this season, dropping both of their previous meetings. However, the Ducks aren’t playing at a super high level lately going 5-4-1 in their last ten matchups and just lost 4-1 to the New York Rangers.

Here's a duck on a Jet:

Ondrej Pavelec will likely be getting the start tonight, given the fact that Michael Hutchinson played last night against the Kings. It’ll be essential that the Jets manage the amount of bad turnovers they surrender as the Ducks have the ability to capitalize on any mistakes. As the Jets continue to get healthier, we can finally start to see if they can elevate their play above the impressive level that they’ve been at. A win against the Ducks would go a long way towards building momentum and more breathing room in the wild card race.

Now, about Teemu. He was one of the most special players the league has ever seen. His talent was only exceeded by his character and his presence will be missed in the league. It's obviously a no-brain decision for the Ducks to retire his number, but it's still going to be awesome to see. It also gives me an excuse to bring back this video from his first return to Winnipeg:

Player to boo mercilessly:

Ryan Getzlaf. Just shave it off bro.

Prediction:

The Jets spoil the party and come away with a 5-4 win in OT.
