Gary Lawless has reported that the Winnipeg Jets have signed Nikolaj Ehlers to an ELC:
Breaking: #nhljets have signed first round pick Nikolaj Ehlers to a three-year entry level deal. Ehlers was taken 9th overall in 2014 #bn
— gary lawless (@garylawless) September 2, 2014
Ehlers had 49 goals and 55 assists for 104 points in 63 games. He had 7 short-handed goals, 13 powerplay goals, and 7 game winning goals. He shot at 17.1%. In the playoffs he had 11 goals and 17 assists for 28 points in 16 games while shooting 16.9%. Ehlers is not likely to stick with the Jets beyond 9 games due to his slightness. He is expected to return to the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL. He should be playing against top defensive players as Jonathan Drouin has since departed.
By signing before he is expected to play in the NHL, the Jets will eventually save on his cap hit as his signing bonus is subtracted each year (s/t to SaskHab at EOPT).
