Penticton Preview: Jets vs Oilers

An eventful and beneficial weekend for Jets prospects comes to a close today as the Penticton Young Stars classic wraps up today. The Jets face off, in there third and final game, against the Edmonton Oilers. The Jets are 1-1 in the tournament thus far. They won there last game 5-4 over the Canucks courtesy of Nic Petans highlight reel overtime goal.

The game starts at 1:30 pm CT and can be seen on winnipegjets.com where it will be streamed live. You can also listen to the action on TSN 1290.

Some Things

Winnipeg Jets

Top Guns: The top line of Kosmachuk, Lowry and Petan was very impressive last game. The line combined for 5 points and was effective in the offensive zone. The line features 3 players that hope to compete for spots at main camp. Lowry remains my favorite on that line to make the big club.

Austin Brassard? Surprisingly Austin Brassard, has shined bright in this tournament. Many have regarded Brassard as a lost cause. This tournament he has showcased some offensive upside and good two way play, with a gritty component.

Avoid Darnell Nurse: The Jets will be facing some coveted prospects against the Oilers. Darnell Nurse is one of them. Arguably Nurse could have played in the NHL last year and certainly is a favorite to make the club this year. The Jets will have a difficult time getting around the 6’4 blue-liner.

Edmonton Oilers

More Promising players: Oilers brass has been struggling the last few years to get first round picks Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, Ryan Nugent Hopkins and Nail Yakupov to generate there success in to wins. The team has a new duo entering the fold. Darnell Nurse and Leon Draistaitl Draistl is a promising prospect who the Oilers selected 3rd overall in this years draft. Nurse was the Oilers 2013 first round pick and looks to make a big impact on the blue line right away. These two players are the face of this youngster’s team.

Hidden Gems: Playres such as, Jujhar Kharia, Bogdan Yakimov, look to impress as they attempt to start the season pro.

Player to Boo Mercilessly

Darnell Nurse – Hellllooo Nurse!

Final Score Prediction

Jets: 3

Oilers: 2
