The Winnipeg Jets have agreed to terms with qualified RFA Ben Chiarot:
#NHLJets have agreed to terms with D Ben Chiarot on a one-year, two-way deal worth $600,000 in the #NHL
— Ken Wiebe (@WiebeSunSports) July 23, 2014
Ben Chiarot was selected in the 4th round 120th overall in 2009 by the Atlanta Thrashers. In October 2013 the 23 year old was called up to the Winnipeg Jets and played a single unremarkable game. The large defenseman contributed 25 points in 86 games in the 13/14 AHL season for the St. Johns. Not known for offensive prowess, he plays a physical game and has a decent shot.
The Hamilton, ON native requires waivers for the 14/15 season for the first time. With lots of one way contracts in front of him - and Joshua Morrissey likely getting a 9 game trial - waivers are a likely scenario. With Chiarot having a low ceiling, he may end up a career AHL player.
Will he pass through waivers? Is there room for him at the big club? Do we really need another "stay at home" D-man on the left side? Discuss below.
