The Winnipeg Jets sign Patrice Cormier to a one year two way contract worth $625,000

The Winnipeg Jets have agreed to terms with RFA Patrice Cormier:

Patrice cormier was selected in the 2nd round 54th overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 2008 entry draft. This past season the big center chipped in 26 points in 61 regular season games, seven points in 21 playoff games.

Cormier requires waivers for the 14/15 season to be sent down to the AHL, but has cleared in the past. After making the opening night of the first Winnipeg Jets 2.0 season, he was sent down to make room for Brett MacLean who was claimed from waivers. The Moncton native has played 28 games in a Jets jersey, struggling to find his role and stick in the big club.

With center prospects such as Adam Lowry, Nic Petan, and even Ryan Olsen starting to push their way up the depth chart, it will be difficult for Cormier to stay relevant. However he does require 31 more NHL games by the end of the 14/15 season or he may qualify as a group VI free agent.

Will he finally get a long term shot at the big club? Is he an effective NHLer, or will he wash out? Share your thoughts below.
