The Winnipeg Jets sign Carl Klingberg to a one-year, two-way deal

The Winnipeg Jets inked one of their qualified RFA’s today, as Carl Klingberg will return to the organization for at least one more season. Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports got the scoop and further entrenched himself as major Jets insider since nobody else in town appears to be doing it….

So what does it mean? Well, likely not much to the Jets as there's no room at the inn when it comes to 4th-line roster spots, but Klingberg is waiver-eligible, so sending him down can't happen without the risk of losing him for nothing.

Tim wrote this prospect snapshot of Klingberg a few months ago which talked about how this is a “make or break” season for Klingberg, but he’ll be in tough to beat out guys like Chris Thorburn, Anthony Peluso and Eric Tangradi who are all on one-way deals this coming season. Having said that, his $650,000 salary at the NHL level might be palatable to a “budget team”.

Thoughts on the signing and where Klinger fits into the puzzle that are the Winnipeg Jets? Let us know in the comments section below.
