2014 NHL Free Agency: Winnipeg Jets sign Mathieu Perreault

The Winnipeg Jets have signed 26 year old centre Matthieu Perrault. Perrault played in 69 games last season for the Anaheim Ducks and accumulated 18 goals and 25 assists in his time there.

Perrault is coming off of a breakout season with the Ducks and is a considerable upgrade at a position that has been thin for the Jets franchise. Perrault will have a legitimate shot at a top six spot on the roster and should push Mark Scheifele to work even harder to keep what he’s earned to this point.

My quick reaction is that I'm pretty excited about this signing. I'm a fan of players needing to earn their roles on the team every single day and the term on the contract is more than reasonable for a productive player that is just entering his prime.

Hopefully this will signal the start of a much more active season for the Jets. We will have more news as it becomes available.
