* Fenwick is simply shots and missed shots. It was used over Corsi so as to not punish players for shot blocking.
Thoughts:
  • The table is sorted by Fenwick (shots + missed shots) against.
  • All of the stats on the table are "on ice" numbers. They are subject to team effect and don't factor in the quality of linemates.
  • One or tow goals makes a huge difference in goal rates when you are talking 40-80 minutes and 50 ish shots on goal.
  • Adding Blake Wheeler to the penalty kill looks to have been a wise decision.
  • Matt Halischuk is a decent little penalty killer. He has performed well historically as well.
  • Why did Noel insist on playing James Wright a ton when Frolik was available? Less Wright means a more effective PK.
  • Kane's numbers are way down from a year ago, but that should be expected after a switch from Alexander Burmistrov to James Wright as a primary partner.
  • Primary parings were Kane-Wright, Ladd-Little, injuries and Paul Maurice caused some major jumbles down the stretch.
  • Ladd and Little weren't a dominant duo, but they were a threat to score. For what it is worth, they were also frequently paired with Jacob Trouba and Mark Stuart. Mark Stuart was the Jets' least effective shot suppressor on D. Amongst this quartet, the the cause and effected are unknown via numbers – feel free to speculate in the comment section.
There aren’t any glaring issues with the Winnipeg Jets’ penalty killing forwards. This was especially true when Paul Maurice took over and added skill players like Olli Jokinen and Blake Wheeler over James Wright. If Alex Burmistrov does in fact return things could get even better. Regardless, less PK is a big need.
