Winnipeg Jets at the World Juniors: Petaning

After an exciting first day of World Juniors action, that saw all six Winnipeg Jets prospects lace up their skates Jets fans will be blessed with another busy day of prospect watching. Three of today’s four games will feature a Jets prospect. Only Chase De Leo will have the day off.

Yesterday's Tournament Action

Nikolaj Ehlers and his Danish team nearly pulled off a big upset over team Russia. Ehlers himself was dynamic. He scored a first period goal and created a load of chances. Late in the third he went one on four through the Russian team to create a chance that would have pulled his team ahead. Ehlers is now leading the tournament with 7 shots on goal.

Chase De Leo also brought forth a bit of a surprise. In team USA's pre-tournament action he'd largely been skating on the third line. He was bumped up to line one yesterday and while he didn't score (in regulation play), his line was dominant. De Leo was able to help his team. He shot third in the shootout, scored and clinched the game for team USA.

Nic Petan was the most productive of Canada's six prospects tallying a goal and two assists and earning praise from all over the place after his dominant showing. Petan's goal was a beautiful top cheddar snipe and his assists showed off his wonderful vision.

Josh Morrissey and Jan Kostalek were held off the score sheet, but played solid two way hockey. Kostalek did receive a major penalty for a crushing hit during the game. Eric Comrie watched action from the bench.
