Winnipeg Jets Acquire Defenceman Jay Harrison

Kevin Cheveldayoff made a trade and even though it was not a player for player trade, the situation on defence makes that reasonable.

After learning that Mark Stuart would be out until February and with the Christmas Trade Freeze coming into effect tonight at 11:00 pm, Kevin Cheveldayoff worked hard to acquire a defenceman for the Winnipeg Jets to hold them over until players start returning to health. With NHL defensive depth depleted and AHL defensive depth almost gone as well, one cannot blame the Jets for this move. Harrison has one more year left on his contract at $1.5 million cap hit.

The move come in part because there are almost no bodies available for recall and it sounds like Tobias Enstrom will be back in mid-January. If the Jets are able to survive this stretch of playing a defence comprised of bottom four defencemen, give Paul Maurice the Jack Adams. Oh, and don't expect a recall from St. John's because defencemen are exploding everywhere.
