Cole’s Notes From Around the League: 10/25/14-10/31/14

Anaheim

The Ducks recalled defenceman Josh Manson from AHL Norfolk. Defencemen Bryan Allen and Shea Theodore, the latter likely to be returned to junior once healed, were loaned to AHL Norfolk for conditioning.

Arizona

The Coyotes added former NHL star Brian Rolston to the team’s pro scouting and analytics staff.

Boston

The Bruins reassigned defenceman Joe Morrow to AHL Providence on the 26th, recalling both him and defenceman David Warsofsky on the 29th.

Buffalo

The Sabres returned centre Sam Reinhart to his junior team, WHL Kootenay. Defenceman Jamie McBain, who last played in the NHL for Buffalo, ultimately not receiving a qualifying offer, signed a try-out with AHL Manchester.

Calgary

The Flames reassigned defenceman Corey Potter to AHL Adirondack. They recalled centres Markus Granlund and Michael Ferland. Defenceman Sheldon Brookbank, whose last NHL action came during the preseason on a tryout with Calgary, signed in Russia with the KHL’s Ak Bars Kazan.

Carolina

The Hurricanes reassigned winger Patrick Brown to AHL Charlotte, later doing the same with defenceman Ryan Murphy and forward Brody Sutter.

Chicago

The Blackhawks reassigned goaltender Scott Darling to AHL Rockford. Forward prospect Joakim Nordstrom was named captain of the IceHogs.

Colorado

The Avalanche reassigned goaltender Calvin Pickard to AHL Lake Erie. They recalled forward Dennis Everberg.

Columbus

The Blue Jackets reassigned centre Alexander Wennberg and goaltender Anton Forsberg to AHL Springfield on the 26th, recalling Wennberg on the 27th and recalling Forsberg on an emergency basis on the 29th. They recalled wingers Brian Gibbons and Sean Collins from AHL Springfield on the 30th.

Dallas

The Stars reassigned forward Curtis McKenzie to AHL Texas. Winger Valeri Nichushkin was also reassigned, for conditioning following an injury.

Detroit

The Red Wings reassigned centre Stephen Weiss to AHL Grand Rapids for conditioning on the 28th, recalling him on the 30th.

Edmonton

The Oilers reassigned goaltender Richard Bachman and winger Luke Gazdic to AHL Oklahoma City, the latter for conditioning. Winger Kevin Westgarth, whose last NHL action came on a tryout with Edmonton, signed in the UK with the Elite Ice Hockey League’s Belfast Giants.

Florida

The Panthers have recalled forwards Vincent Trocheck and Rocco Grimaldi from AHL San Antonio.

Los Angeles

The Kings have recalled forward David Van Der Gulik from AHL Manchester. They reassigned him yesterday.

Minnesota

The Wild recalled defencemen Stu Bickel and Justin Falk from AHL Iowa. They reassigned Bickel and recalled winger Stephane Veilleux yesterday.

Montreal

The Canadiens recalled defenceman Nathan Beaulieu and winger Michael Bournival from AHL Hamilton.

Nashville

The Predators reassigned winger Viktor Stalberg to AHL Milwaukee for conditioning, also reassigning winger Rich Clune.

New Jersey

The Devils recalled winger Reid Boucher from AHL Albany.

New York I.

The Islanders made no moves this week.

New York R.

The Rangers made no moves this week.

Ottawa

The Senators recalled goaltender Andrew Hammond from AHL Binghamton on an emergency basis. He was reassigned the next day.

Philadelphia

The Flyers recalled defenceman Brandon Manning from AHL Lehigh Valley. They also signed defenceman Carlo Colaiacovo to a one-year contract worth $625K at the NHL level and $250K in the minors.

Pittsburgh

The Penguins recalled winger Jayson Megna.

San Jose

The Sharks reassigned winger Tyler Kennedy to AHL Worcester for a long-term conditioning assignment.

St. Louis

The Blues made no moves this week.

Tampa Bay

The Lightning recalled forwards Mike Blunden and Jonathan Marchessault from AHL Syracuse last weekend, reassigning them a few days later. They also reassigned forward Cedric Paquette.

Toronto

The Maple Leafs are being dumb-dumbs. They reassigned defenceman Stuart Percy to AHL Toronto on Sunday, and recalled him on Thursday.

Vancouver

The Canucks reassigned defenceman Frank Corrado to AHL Utica.

Washington

The Capitals reassigned winger Chris Brown to AHL Hershey and recalled winger Tom Wilson.

Winnipeg

The Jets recalled forward Patrice Cormier from AHL St. John’s during the weekend, reassigning him yesterday.

And now for something completely different. I'm a huge fan of offence. I imagine a game where the goal-scoring rates are as high as they got in the 1980s or 1992/93 would be more fun to watch, and more fun to track outside of games, in fantasy leagues and such. So a little idea popped into my head: at the end of every month, I'll track the average goals per game across the league, and post it at the end of my Cole's Notes at the end of every month, to see how close scoring is to 1992/93.
