Cole’s Notes From Around the League: 10/20/14-10/24/14

Anaheim

The Ducks have again made a goalie swap with AHL Norfolk, recalling rookie John Gibson and reassigning veteran Jason LaBarbera.

Arizona

The Coyotes have recalled centre Justin Hodgman from AHL Portland. Hodgman had a few really good years in European leagues recently, and impressed in training camp, but was sent down at the start of the season because of the number of more established NHLers the Coyotes have at forward.

Boston

The Bruins made no major moves this week.

Buffalo

The Sabres made no major moves this week. They have announced January 13, when they play Detroit, as the date for their retiring of the no.39 worn by Dominik Hasek, who had his best years in the late 1990s and early 2000s playing for both teams.

Calgary

The Flames signed defenceman TJ Brodie to a five-year extension worth $23.25M, effective 2015/16.

Carolina

The Hurricanes made no major moves this week.

Chicago

The Blackhawks made no major moves this week.

Colorado

The Avalanche made no major moves this week.

Columbus

The Blue Jackets made no major moves this week. Since my last edition, the website has stopped vanishing within two seconds of login.

Dallas

Stars defenceman Patrik Nemeth, after getting his arm cut by the skate of Philadelphia’s R.J. Umberger, will be out for the year. In response, Jamie Oleksiak will take his spot in the lineup and prospect Jyrki Jokipakka was recalled from AHL Texas to be the no.7.

Detroit

With Jimmy Howard back in the lineup, the Red Wings reassigned Petr Mrazek to AHL Grand Rapids.

Edmonton

The Oilers made no major moves this week.

Florida

The Panthers made no major moves this week.

Los Angeles

Kings defenceman Slava Voynov has been suspended indefinitely by the NHL after being charged with domestic violence.

The Wild have signed forward Charlie Coyle to a five-year extension worth $16M, effective 2015/16.

Montreal

The Canadiens reassigned defenceman Nathan Beaulieu and forward Michael Bournival to AHL Hamilton.

Nashville

New Jersey

The Devils made no major moves this week.

New York I.

The Islanders reassigned winger Colin McDonald and recalled forward Anders Lee from AHL Bridgeport.

New York R.

The Rangers made no major moves this week.

Ottawa

The Senators made no major moves this week. Their game against Toronto has been rescheduled for November 9 at 5 PM on Central.

Philadelphia

With defencemen Braydon Coburn and Andrew MacDonald out with injuries, the Flyers recalled defenceman Shayne Gostisbehere from AHL Lehigh Valley.

Pittsburgh

The Penguins reassigned centre Andrew Ebbett and defenceman Scott Harrington to AHL Wilkes-Barre on the 20th, reassigned defenceman Derrick Pouliot on the 21st, recalled Ebbett and Harrington on the 22nd, reassigning them again on the 24th.

San Jose

The Sharks recalled forward James Sheppard from his conditioning assignment with AHL Worcester.

St. Louis

The Blues, hit hard by a bacterial illness, have recalled winger Dmitrij Jaskin from AHL Chicago. Winger Paul Bissonnette, whose last involvement with the NHL was a training camp attendance with St. Louis, has signed a one-year deal in the UK with the Elite Ice Hockey League’s Cardiff Devils, where he notched 21 points in 11 games during the 2012/13 lockout. He has an NHL out-clause.

Tampa Bay

The Lightning made no major moves this week.

Toronto

The Maple Leafs made no major moves this week. Their game against Ottawa has been rescheduled for November 9 at 5 PM Central.

Vancouver

The Canucks made no major moves this week.

Washington

The Capitals reassigned winger Tom Wilson to AHL Hershey. It remains to be seen if this is because of his poor 10-point performance last season or because of him coming off a five-game stint on injured reserve with a broken fibula.

Winnipeg

The Jets made no major moves this week.

My deepest sympathies go to the family of the victims of the Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu and Parliament Hill attacks. Thanks for reading.
