Kevin Cheveldayoff avoided arbitration with his fifth and final restricted free agent after reaching a 7-year, $36 million dollar agreement with Zach Bogosian, who is here for the long-term.

USA TODAY Sports

Kevin Cheveldayoff can cancel his flight to Toronto. The arbitration hearings are no longer needed.

Zach Bogosian avoided arbitration by signing on long-term with the Winnipeg Jets, inking a 7-year contract worth $36 million dollars. With an average cap-hit of roughly $5.14MM per season, Bogosian will be a Jet for a long time and is now the only player signed through the 2019-20 season.

Chevy has clearly decided that the bulk of of the Atlanta Thrashers he acquired are majestic steeds he'll pilot to greatness, as Evander Kane, Andrew Ladd, Tobias Enstrom, Bryan Little, Ondrej Pavelec and Bogosian have all been retained by their General Manager over the past two years. It remains to be seen how this plan will pan out, but I can't help think that Rick Dudley is sipping on a Mai Tai and taking a fair bit of pride in all of this.

Bogosian will be a very highly paid third defenceman on this team, assuming of course that Dustin Byfuglien and Tobias Enstrom are still ahead of him when the puck drops this fall, but the hope is that halfway through this deal that Bogosian morphs into the cornerstone defenceman that this franchise believes he can be.
