Five wins in the last seven games has lifted the Jets to within two points of a playoff spot and the improvement of LW Evander Kane is promising — his 4.2 shots on goal per game in February ranked seventh in the league.

***Editor’s Note*** Sportsnet apparently didn’t do rankings this week. Dummies.

A disappointing loss at home to Washington Saturday blunted some of the enthusiasm from recent road success, but Jets are still 5-2-0 in their past seven and are two points out of eighth in the East with two games in hand.

Can somebody please get to the bottom of this mystery that is the Jets’ lack of success at home vs. their success on the road? K, thanks … They are the forgotten team in the Southeast still, I think, but they’re quietly in second. They could be the benefactors of a Carolina fall.

***Editor’s Note*** NHL.com does a ‘Super 16’ Power Rankings. The Jets did not make the top-16 but they did make the “Just Missed” section which suggests that they are in the “top-21”.

The Jets may stand to benefit the most from Cam Ward’s injury as they seem to be finding a groove. Winning four of five on a recent road trip, where they struggled so badly last season, was a great accomplishment.

That thud was the Jets’ three-game winning streak coming to an end against the Caps on Saturday. It was the first time the Jets have been shut out this year, so they have that going for them.

They had a nice little uptick in their recent play, but, well, you still just can’t get too excited. Their victory in New York over the Rangers was a good one, though, with Olli Jokinen and Evander Kane scoring two goals each in a 4-3 triumph, and they followed that with a home win over the Devils. But just when you were starting to buy in a little, they got shut out, 3-0, by the Capitals at home. Winnipeg’s power play has been anything but of late: 1-for-32. Quarterback Dustin Byfuglien hasn’t scored a goal since Jan. 27 against the Islanders (11 straight games).

Keep in mind that these rankings came out when things were “going well”, as they’d returned home from their solid road trip. Next weeks rankings will include these last two stinkers to the Capitals and the Panthers
