Day Late and A Dollar Short: Florida Panthers pounce on the Winnipeg Jets

Normally our recaps are instant, but sometimes you need to let things simmer so the flavors blend fully. And sometimes you go out drinking and don't do a recap. If you interpreted the no-show as a poetic representation of the Winnipeg Jets effort versus Florida I like that spin too, but that isn't the truth. The Jets crapped the bed and so did we. Oops! Here is our day late and dollar short post game.

Thoughts:

The Winnipeg Jets third line last night was Eric Tangradi, Mark Scheifele and Matt Halischuk. The Florida Panthers third line was Sean Bergenheim, Aleksander Barkov and Brad Boyes. The Florida Panthers dressed a better 3rd line. I don't like what that says about the Jets depth.

Much will be made of the Jets "effort" and "character", but talent had something to do with it too. No Michael Frolik and no Evander Kane is a huge blow to what is already a thin forward group. That is a lot to over come. It could be argued that the Jets dressed more AHL talent than NHL talent.

Speaking of the NHL talent, the Jets best players didn't have a great night. Ladd scored a goal and still finished minus-3 that isn't good.

The issues weren't all related to forward depth. Dustin Byfuglien and Tobias Enstrom had a rough night too. They were yucky.

Speaking of yucky. Ondrej Pavelec had his worst outing in weeks. He won't be pleased with a couple of the pucks that zipped past him.

Failure on all three levels – I guess we can call that a complete team effort.

Non-Jets thought: The Panthers have some wonderful looking young players. Sasha Barkov is quite the rookie.
