Winnipeg Jets Power Rankings Compilation – November 28, 2013

Every week, various MSM sites put out their NHL Power Rankings, and every Wednesday during the season we compile them in one tidy chart for your viewing pleasure (and yes, I realize it’s Thursday today but it was a game day yesterday so we pushed it back). You can click on the logo to go to the full rankings from each site. And without any further adieu, here are where the Winnipeg Jets rank this week:

The glass half-empty notes that the Jets haven’t had a regulation win in their last seven games, but the half-full optimist recognizes that they have recorded points in five of those seven games. The problem is, all that still leaves them under .500, which is nowhere near the playoffs in the Western Conference.

Last place in the Central Division and 10 points out of a playoff spot, reality is beginning to set in for the Jets.

The Jets have points in seven of their last nine, and a monstrous six-game eastern road trip got off to a great start with a victory over the Devils.

After winning four in a row, the Jets give it back with four straight losses, but at least two were in shootouts. Now they embark on a six-game road trip; yes, it’s an important stretch.

Ed. Note – The Super 16 on NHL.com involves the top-16 ranked teams in the league. The Jets did not make the list. A huge shock, I know.

The streaky Jets are all kinds of fun to watch, but they must be a nightmare to coach. It would certainly help things if Evander Kane would start scoring. He’s in the midst of a nine-game goal drought. After practice Wednesday, an exasperated coach Claude Noel had this to say: “We’ve just got to get better. What league are we in? Peewees? We start like Peewees?”

GOOD NEWS: Top gun Evander Kane snapped an 11-game goal-scoring slump.
BAD NEWS: Key forward Blake Wheeler extended his goal-scoring drought to 12 games.
BOTTOM LINE: The Jets opened a six-game road trip by winning at New Jersey. Perhaps that victory, which snapped a four-game losing streak, will provide a turning point.

After dropping three straight at home, it’s probably just as well that the Jets are out on a six-game road trip. If they hope to turn things around, they need more of what they got in Monday night’s opening win in Newark: goals from slumping forwards Evander Kane, Mark Schiefele and Devin Setoguchi. (Last week: 1-1-1)

The Winnipeg Jets continue to be in the bottom half of the league of the “advanced stats” battle. Their 5v5-close CF% is currently 16th in the league at 49.6%, while their 5v5-close FF% is 19th in the league at 48.8%. Perhaps the rankings in the high-to-mid 20’s are a little on the low side…

The Jets only appear inside of the top-20 in one of these rankings, yet the #fancystats would suggest that they're pretty much in the middle of the pack with their 5v5 Corsi-For% actually being in the top-16 of the league. On the heels of two straight road wins to start their Eastern road-swing, it'll be interesting to see where the Jets rank next week. Especially if they can continue their winning ways.

Agree or disagree with the rankings? Do you like the fact that I added the #fancystats information from ExtraSkater? Do you love the fact that there's snow everywhere in Winnipeg? Let us know in the comments!
