How embarrassing for the New York Islanders. Word around the city is that Winnipeg Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff requested an official copy of tonight’s game sheet so that he could frame the above scoring line and hang it proudly within the offices of TNSE.
In all seriousness, the Jets managed to build up a 3-0 lead on the road and then hang on for their 2nd-straight regulation victory in a row and 7th of the season. Goals by Mark Stuart (!!!), Andrew Ladd and Devin Setoguchi staked them to the lead, and a solid night from Al Montoya added up to the 3-2 final score. Andrew MacDonald and John Tavares replied for the soon to be Brooklyn Islanders.
10 Thoughts:
- The Jets are starting their road trip off on the right foot, 2-0 so far after wins against New Jersey and the Islanders.
- Al Montoya looked very sharp in net. I thought the John Tavares goal was a bit weak, but he more than made up for it with a number of impressive saves.
- After starting slow, Devin Setoguchi really seems to have found his groove with the Jets. His goal tonight was his sixth of the season, his eighth point in the month of November, and he often looked dangerous.
- Jets’ rookie Mark Scheifele might be finding his groove as well. With his assist tonight, Scheifele now has a three game point streak in the works.
- A lot of young defensemen need to work on the defensive aspect of their games. When watching rookie defenseman Jacob Trouba, I feel like he’s already a pretty decent defenseman, but he makes risky decisions with the puck. Contrary to most young defensemen, Trouba is most dangerous with the puck on his stick.
- Andrew Ladd’s goal tonight ties him with Evander Kane for second on the team (Bryan Little is first). Nothing against Andrew Ladd in any way, shape, or form, but that doesn’t bode well for the success of this team.
- Speaking of Kane, James Wright set him up for a semi-breakaway late in the game, but aside from that I didn’t think he looked particularly dangerous tonight.
- John Tavares is a tremendous hockey player.
- Andrew MacDonald is very quietly playing a TON of minutes. He surpasses 30 minutes tonight, the fifth time he’s surpassed 30 minutes this season. In his last 20 games, MacDonald has played less than 25 minutes just three times, and he left one of those games early.
- The Jets’ fourth line played about eight minutes each at even strength tonight. I approve; that’s around where they should be.
