Recap:
The Jets put together a far better effort today than they did in the season opener and it netted them a better result. This was a much more exciting hockey game too. Both teams played with speed and completed passes to sticks instead of skates.
Chris Thorburn opened the scoring 1:58 into the game. Brad Marchand evened things up at 14:12 and while the scoring stopped there, the chances didn’t. The game had a frantic pace through the first period and was a steady end to end game throughout.
From here the Jets head out to DC to take on the Washington Capitals in their second game in back-to-back nights. It will be interesting to see if last year’s road struggles carry over or if the new year brings better fortunes.
Ten Thoughts:
Top to bottom, the performances were better. The team played with a lot of speed and used their size effectively. Size and speed. Size and speed. Size and speed. Noel likes these things.
Kane appears to be making a conscious effort to pass, and though it hasn't resulted in any points, he has been one of the Jets' better players through two games. He has been doing a great job with zone entries too. Also, no cardio issues and multiple moves. Take that you big, dumb KHL coach.
The Jets have done a great job of minimizing their penalties, but they haven't been taking advantage with the man advantage. The Jets have scored one goal in ten tries. Of course a big night tomorrow could make the numbers look a lot better, but failed zone entries and sloppy play at the points need to go away. The Jets could have outright won this game with power plays to close out both regulation and OT.
