Winnipeg Jets pick up Anthony Peluso off waivers from the St. Louis Blues

In a somewhat puzzling move, the Jets have added Anthony Peluso via waivers today after claiming him from the St. Louis Blues organization.

It's curious that this is the type of player that the Jets would be adding to their NHL roster just days before the start of the season. Perhaps there is concern that there is a lack of Brian Burkiness physicality on the roster that they chose to acquire someone who has primarily served as an enforcer in his career.

Peluso does have some offensive upside, as 5 goals in 35 AHL games is nothing to sneer at. But does that warrant him a spot over the likes of Spencer Machacek, Maxime Macenauer, Antti Miettinen or *gasp* Mark Scheifele?

I hope not, but it seems as though that’s the case. Peluso would have to clear waivers to be assigned to St. John’s, and it’s likely that he would be reclaimed by St. Louis should that be the case, similar to what happened to Maxwell last year between Winnipeg and the Anaheim Ducks, or even Brett McLean who was re-claimed by the Phoenix Coyotes after a brief stint in Winnipeg.

And now for why we all go to hockey games…..BLOOOODDDDD
