With the NHL lockout well into week two of its existence, the NHL has begun cancelling games while members of the NHLPA are being forced to find work overseas. It's one thing to stay in town to exhibit a front of "solidarity", but practicing will not keep any player in prime game shape, regardless of who they are. As this lockout sucks us deeper and deeper into a non-hockey vortex, the only way for these athletes to stay in shape will be to continue finding work, and there's a list of Winnipeg Jets' players who are doing exactly that.
The list of Winnipeg Jets players to cross the pond includes: Ondrej Pavelec, Alexei Ponikarovsky, Nik Antropov and Tobias Enstrom. Pavelec is playing for the Bílí Tygři Liberec HC of the Czech Extraliga, Ponikarovsky is playing for HC Donbass of the KHL, Antropov is playing for Barys Astana of the KHL and Enstrom is the latest to make the jump, landing with Modo of the SEL.
Some members of the 2011-2012 Winnipeg Jets also signed overseas before the lockout began: Tim Stapleton is with HC Dinamo Minsk in the KHL, Mark Flood is with the rebuilding Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the KHL, Arturs Kulda is with HC Sibir Novosibirsk of the KHL and Brett Festerling is with the Nürnberg Ice Tigers of the DEL.
As long as there's a lockout, Arctic Ice Hockey will continually track the progress of all the players mentioned above, and will add to the list as others that join their ranks.
For more info stay tuned after the jump. What do you mean jumps don't exist??? Curses!
