Winnipeg Jets Re-sign Jim Slater To New Contract

Terms of the deal have yet to be determined, as the Jets refuse to tell what capgeek eventually will. But Jim Slater will for sure be back next season as two-thirds of the beloved GST line are now on contract for next season, with Tanner Glass still without a contract and July 1st rapidly approaching.

I personally like the move, as having a solid bottom six centre willing and able to win faceoffs and kill penalties is always a good thing. Hopefully the price wasn’t too steep though, as one could easily point to the fancy stats to see that while GST was wildly popular, they weren’t wildly effective. Seeing them in a more traditional 4th line role would likely soothe a lot of concerns, and I do think that Slater would make a great 4th line centre for this squad, but am still looking for them to target a legitimate option for third line centre in free agency. Another option presented by AIH thus far is an increased role for Patrice Cormier, who fits the same mold as AC Slater, but is younger and cheaper, and may actually be better at the faceoff dot.

More details will be added as they become available

UPDATE: Sources say 1.6 million per year for 3 years, which is a lot more stomach-able than what Chris Kelly signed for with the Bruins.
