Winnipeg Jets’ goaltender Ondrej Pavelec has signed with the Lahti Pelicans of SM-liiga

Winnipeg Jets goaltender Ondrej Pavelec has agreed to a six game stint in SM-liiga.

Pavelec will join a Pelicans team that has been struggling on both ends of the ice, winning only six games in 25 tries. They have also allowed a league high 96 goals against. Ouch! That leaves the Pelicans ranked 13th out of the 14 SM-liiga teams.

Ondrej Pavelec won’t be the only NHLer to spend time in Lahti. Carolina Hurricanes defender Jamie McBain posted one assists and a -5 rating in four games and San Jose Sharks net-minder Antti Niemi spent 10 games with The Pelicans earlier this off season. He posted a 3.11 GAA and a .904SV%.

Per friend of the blog Antti Eteläaho (@finanatsu) former Atlanta Thrashers goaltender Pasi Nurminen is owner of the Pavi's new team. He started 125 games for the Thrashers / Jets franchise.
