I love when a hockey trade comes full circle:
June 22, 2007: Edmonton Oilers trade draft picks #30 and #36 to Phoenix in order to draft Riley Nash at #21.
June 26, 2010: Edmonton Oilers trade Riley Nash to Carolina for the #46 pick.
Let's do some accounting:
Pick #30 = $2M
Pick #36 = $1.5M
Pick #46 = $1.25M
So Edmonton comes out $2.25M in the red. The only consolation the Oilers can take here is that neither the #30 pick (Nick Ross) nor the #36 pick (Joel Gistedt) is likely to produce anything in the NHL anytime soon.
