Compare and contrast from the Sharks‘ perspective:
Down 1 | Tied | Up 1 | |
Col | 73.6 | 62.2 | 55.2 |
Det | 46.2 | 53.2 | 48.8 |
This is actually Fenwick% (Corsi excluding blocked shots). By this metric, the Wings and Sharks were much more closely-matched – hence four one-goal Sharks wins. 53.2% isn't very far from what we'd expect given their scoring chance ratios this season.
The key thing is that Detroit is a much, much better team than Colorado. Yet San Jose dispensed with them much more easily than they did Colorado thanks to timely scoring and a normal shooting percentage. Does anyone out there honestly believe that Colorado is a better team than Detroit?
